A huge THANK YOU, both to our sponsors LTi Technology Solutions Ltd and to the AFPA Trust members and friends, who managed to get Marlow and participate, whilst also putting up with all the necessary Covid-19 restrictions which, on this occasion, obviously diminished the normal socialising side of the event. More thanks go to Brent Walmsley of LTi and Andrea Watkins of VIP Apps for manning the two support vehicles.
Many more cyclists had wanted to join but were constrained on the day, however their donations and bookings have been carried forward to the next event (see below).
It was a 55 mile course this time and everyone completed it. This included some 3,000 ft of climbing through the picturesque Chilterns. Some socially distanced coffee and cake at the start in Marlow, then a ride through the hills to Benson, on the River Thames.
There was an unplanned detour due to a major TV set and the reboot of Worzel Gummidge which closed the road where we could have reached 45mph on a rapid descent and sadly, they were not in need of several men clad in lycra, as extras!
The expected rain thankfully pushed back 24hrs and instead there was glorious sunshine in the afternoon in which to attack the same hills on the return, but from different angles, including passing by the Windmill from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang which everyone said was a “must see” on the ride no matter what the weather
Thanks to LTi’s organisational and sponsorship efforts together with the muscle power of everyone who ventured out, a fantastic £1,000 was raised for AFPA Trust, to put towards the good causes supported by its members.
For all those interested, the next ride is planned for Thursday April 15th and details can be obtained from Robert Taylor
