Back in the summer and in one of many after event glow discussions, Peter Hunt of Growcap rose to a challenge from AFPA Trust to help organise a future charity event. After some discussion it was agreed that a proper get together for past and present employees of Lombard might be a nice idea, it could also perhaps be a good pilot for similar model events for other companies, all raising money for good causes chosen by them or by AFPA Trust
Returning to a lively previous AFPA haunt in London was proposed, so The Farringdon Sports Bar and Grill was chosen, as being an easy place to get to for most and the date was then set for the evening of Thursday, October 10th.
The event was intended to be no more than a low-key pilot event to test an idea, so advertising was limited to word of mouth and social media, with a max target of 50 people anticipated
In the event, however, the idea proved to be so popular that over 60 people picked up the word on the street and paid to come along to have a drink and a burger and enjoy seeing old colleagues, all in support of the current AFPA Charity,
It turned out to be an excellent choice of time and venue and a really buzzing event; there were a few stalwarts still going when the organisers had to head home for bed! There were many requests for a repeat, both on the night and afterwards, so we will have to see what we can do next year
